FAQ

Metabolic health can feel complicated. These answers are organised by topic, so you can view what matters to you at a glance.

Is This Right For Me?

Who the programme is for and what you can expect

Start here if you want to know whether the programme fits your situation, what results are realistic, and how remission is discussed.

Who is The Metabolic Reset Programme for?

The Metabolic Reset Programme is designed for adults with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, or those at increased risk of developing these conditions. It is also suitable for anyone who wants to improve their metabolic health and reduce their future risk of type 2 diabetes and other metabolic conditions through evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle change.

Whether you've recently been diagnosed, have been living with diabetes for some time, or simply want to take control of your health before problems develop, the programme is tailored to your individual needs, goals and circumstances. Every client receives personalised support, practical guidance and ongoing encouragement to help create lasting improvements in health.

Do you only work with people who have diabetes?

No. While I specialise in helping people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, I also work with individuals who are at increased risk of developing diabetes or who simply want to improve their metabolic health before more serious health problems develop.

I also offer education and support for family members, friends and carers who want to better understand diabetes and learn how they can support a loved one. If you're interested in an educational session, please get in touch and we'll discuss the best approach for your individual requirements.

Prevention and education are just as important as treatment, and taking action early can make a significant difference to long-term health.

What results can I realistically expect?

Every person is different, so the results you achieve will depend on your current health, medical history, lifestyle and commitment to the programme. During your initial assessment, we'll discuss your goals and develop a personalised plan that is both realistic and achievable.

Many clients experience improvements in blood glucose control, weight management, energy levels, confidence around food choices and overall wellbeing. Success isn't measured by the number on the scales alone. Better blood glucose control, increased energy, healthier habits and improved confidence in managing your health are all meaningful signs of progress.

While no programme can guarantee specific outcomes, my goal is to provide you with the knowledge, support and accountability needed to make sustainable lifestyle changes that improve your metabolic health over the long term.

Can type 2 diabetes be put into remission?

Current research shows that many people with type 2 diabetes can achieve remission through significant and sustained improvements in nutrition, weight management and other lifestyle factors. Remission means blood glucose levels return to below the diabetic range without the need for diabetes medication for a sustained period.

It's important to understand that remission is not the same as a cure. Maintaining those healthy lifestyle habits is essential, as blood glucose levels can rise again if previous habits return. My role is to help you build the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to give you the best possible opportunity to improve your metabolic health and maintain those improvements for the future.

How The Programme Works

Support, appointments and personalised guidance

This section explains how coaching fits alongside your medical care, what your first appointment looks like, and the type of support you receive throughout the programme.

I already have a GP or diabetes nurse. Why would I need a health coach?

Your GP and diabetes nurse are essential members of your healthcare team. They diagnose medical conditions, monitor your health, prescribe medications and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment. My role is never to replace them - it is to work alongside them.

My role is different. As your coach, I help you put evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle changes into practice. Together, we'll look at your eating habits, physical activity, sleep, stress and daily routines to identify realistic changes that support your metabolic health.

Many people know what they should do but find it difficult to put those changes into practice consistently. My role is to educate, encourage and support you throughout that journey, helping you build healthy habits that fit your lifestyle and can be maintained long after the programme has ended. My goal is to give you the knowledge, support and confidence to make informed decisions about your health and build habits that support long-term success.

How much support will I receive throughout the programme?

One of the biggest advantages of working with a coach is the ongoing support and accountability you receive throughout your journey.

Depending on the programme you choose, you'll have regular consultations, the reassurance of being able to contact me between appointments during normal business hours if you need guidance or support, and access to a growing library of educational resources covering topics such as nutrition, meal ideas, food cravings, sleep, stress management and other lifestyle factors that influence metabolic health.

Making lasting lifestyle changes isn't always easy, and there will inevitably be challenges along the way. You won't be expected to face those challenges alone. My aim is to provide the knowledge, encouragement and accountability to help you stay motivated and continue making progress towards your health goals.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is all about getting to know you.

We'll begin with a detailed discussion of your medical history, current health, medications, eating habits, physical activity, sleep, lifestyle and the goals you hope to achieve. This comprehensive assessment helps me understand not only your health but also the challenges and opportunities that are unique to you.

Together, we'll identify the areas that are likely to have the greatest impact on your metabolic health and agree on a personalised plan that is realistic, practical and tailored to your individual needs. My aim is for you to leave your first session feeling informed, confident and clear about the next steps in your journey.

Will I receive a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan?

Yes. Every client receives recommendations tailored to their individual needs.

Following your initial assessment, I'll develop a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan based on your medical history, current health, personal goals and daily routine. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, we'll focus on practical strategies that fit your lifestyle and support long-term success.

As your journey progresses, we'll regularly review your progress together and make adjustments where necessary to ensure your plan continues to meet your needs.

Do you provide meal plans?

Rather than providing rigid meal plans, my aim is to help you develop the knowledge and confidence to make healthy food choices for yourself.

Following your assessment, I'll provide personalised guidance on the types of foods, eating patterns and nutritional strategies that best support your health and goals. This gives you the flexibility to build meals that suit your lifestyle, preferences and family while still supporting better metabolic health.

If you feel that a more structured approach would help you get started, we can discuss this together and decide on the level of guidance that's right for you. My goal isn't to have you follow a meal plan forever - it's to help you understand how to make confident food choices that support your health for life.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple.

The first step is to book a free discovery call, where we'll discuss your current health, your goals and whether The Metabolic Reset Programme is the right fit for you.

If you decide to move forward, we'll arrange your first consultation, complete a comprehensive health assessment and begin developing your personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan. From there, we'll work together step by step to help you achieve lasting improvements in your health.

Why is it called The Metabolic Reset Programme?

The name reflects the philosophy behind my approach.

Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes are often part of a broader picture of metabolic health. Rather than focusing solely on lowering blood glucose levels, The Metabolic Reset Programme aims to improve the way your body uses and stores energy by addressing the underlying lifestyle factors that influence your health.

Through nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management and sustainable behaviour change, we'll work together to improve insulin sensitivity, support healthy metabolic function and reduce the risk of future complications.

This programme isn't about chasing quick fixes or following the latest diet trend. It's about understanding your health, making informed decisions and building sustainable habits that can improve your wellbeing for years to come. My goal is to help you create lasting change - not just while we're working together, but long after the programme has finished.

Tests, Monitoring & Medication

Understanding your numbers and working safely with your medical team

These answers explain the key tests used in metabolic health, when extra monitoring can help, and why your GP or diabetes nurse should stay informed.

What is an HbA1c test?

An HbA1c test, also known as glycated haemoglobin, is a blood test that shows your average blood glucose levels over approximately the previous two to three months. Unlike a finger-prick blood glucose test, which measures your blood sugar at a single moment in time, an HbA1c test provides a broader picture of how well your blood glucose has been controlled over time.

It is one of the most important tests used to diagnose and monitor prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, and it allows both you and your healthcare team to assess how well your current management plan is working.

What is the difference between an HbA1c test and a blood glucose reading?

A blood glucose reading tells you what your blood sugar level is at a particular moment, while an HbA1c test reflects your average blood glucose over approximately the previous two to three months.

One way to think about it is this:

A blood glucose reading is like today's weather - it tells you what's happening right now.

An HbA1c test is like the climate - it reflects the overall pattern over time.

Both measurements are useful. Together, they provide a more complete understanding of your metabolic health and help guide decisions about your care.

What is a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)?

A Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) is a small sensor worn on the body that measures glucose levels continuously throughout the day and night. It allows you to see how your glucose changes in response to meals, physical activity, sleep and other daily activities.

For some people, a CGM can provide valuable insights into how their body responds to food, physical activity and everyday life. However, it isn't essential for everyone, and many people achieve excellent results without using one.

If you're interested in using a CGM, we can discuss whether it would be a useful addition to your programme based on your individual circumstances and goals.

Do I need to tell my GP or diabetes nurse that I'm working with you?

Yes. If you have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, I strongly recommend informing your GP or diabetes nurse before beginning the programme.

Improvements in nutrition and lifestyle can sometimes lead to significant changes in blood glucose levels, which may mean your healthcare team needs to review your medication. Any changes to medication should always be made by your GP or diabetes nurse.

I believe the best outcomes come from working as a team. My role is to complement the care you receive from your healthcare professionals, ensuring we are all working towards the same goal - helping you improve your long-term health.

Will I have to stop taking my medication?

No. You should never stop or change your medication without discussing it with your GP or diabetes nurse.

Many people experience significant improvements in their health through nutrition and lifestyle changes. If those improvements affect your need for medication, your healthcare team will decide whether any adjustments are appropriate.

My role is to support you in making sustainable lifestyle changes, while your GP or diabetes nurse remains responsible for managing your medical treatment safely.

Food & Everyday Life

Practical questions about eating well and making the plan fit real life

These are the common worries people have about favourite foods, flexibility and whether specific strategies like fasting are necessary.

Do I have to give up all my favourite foods?

Not necessarily. One of the biggest misconceptions about improving your health is that you have to give up every food you enjoy.

My approach isn't about following restrictive diets or striving for perfection. Instead, we'll focus on building a balanced, sustainable way of eating that fits your lifestyle while supporting your health goals. Depending on your individual circumstances, some foods may need to be reduced or enjoyed less frequently, but the aim is to help you develop healthy habits that you can maintain for life - not just for a few weeks.

Healthy eating should be enjoyable, realistic and something you can continue long after the programme has finished.

Can intermittent fasting help improve metabolic health?

Intermittent fasting can be a useful strategy for some people and research suggests it may improve metabolic health in certain individuals. However, it is not essential, and it isn't the right approach for everyone.

During your assessment, we'll discuss whether intermittent fasting is appropriate for your individual circumstances, lifestyle and health goals. If you are taking medication for diabetes, particularly insulin or medications that can lower blood glucose, it is important to speak with your GP or diabetes nurse before making significant changes to your eating pattern, as your medication may need to be reviewed.

The best nutritional approach is one that is safe, evidence-based and sustainable for you - not simply the latest trend.

Not sure which option suits you?

I suggest you start with a free discovery call. We'll talk it through and find the right fit.
